Imagine a vast library where every book is a robot's observation, indexed not just by content, but by where and when it happened. Industrial ReMEmbR is like a librarian who doesn't write summaries for every book upfront, but only when someone requests information, making the library much more efficient to run and store.
How Industrial ReMEmbR Works
- 1Robots encode video clips into retrieval embeddings, vision tokens, and reconstruction latents using on-device NVIDIA Jetson hardware, avoiding raw frame uploads.
- 2Encoding models are reused for PII abstraction by detecting and zeroing out people in image patches, ensuring GDPR compliance.
- 3The vision encoder of a split vision-language model (Cosmos3-Edge) runs on the robot, while the language decoder resides on an on-premises server.
- 4A Nemotron agent retrieves memories based on content, position, and time, then queries the server-side decoder using cached vision tokens to reconstruct scene descriptions on demand.
Memory Cost ∝ (Observations × Encoding Complexity) + (Queries × Decoding Complexity)
The total cost of a memory system is proportional to the number of observations multiplied by the complexity of encoding them, plus the number of queries multiplied by the complexity of decoding them. Industrial ReMEmbR optimizes this by reducing encoding complexity at write time.
In a large warehouse, if a specific aisle is frequently blocked, Industrial ReMEmbR allows a human operator or an automated system to query for all instances of 'aisle blockage' in a particular location and time range. The system then reconstructs the relevant scene descriptions from cached vision tokens, providing context without having stored full video or pre-generated captions for every single observation.
By deferring scene description generation to query time and leveraging on-device encoding with split vision-language models, Industrial ReMEmbR significantly reduces the computational and storage overheads of maintaining spatiotemporal memory for robot fleets.
